Job summary

Building Connections Academy in California is seeking a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to support students under licensed SLP supervision. You will help strengthen communication skills within a school-based team including educators and behavior specialists.

The role emphasizes collaborative planning, data collection, and supporting AAC and functional communication strategies to improve learning and independence for students.

Qualifications

  • Meets California education and fieldwork requirements for SLPA registration.
  • Current California SLPA registration, or eligibility to obtain registration prior to providing services.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents preferred.
  • Experience in special education, autism, developmental disabilities, or a school-based setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience with AAC and functional communication strategies preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Required immunizations including MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Hep B, and TB clearance within 4 years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, small-group, and classroom-based speech and language services under the supervision of an SLP.
  • Implement treatment activities and communication strategies developed by the supervising SLP.
  • Support receptive and expressive language, articulation, social/pragmatic language, functional communication, and other identified goals.
  • Support students who use AAC and alternative communication systems as directed by the SLP.
  • Collect student performance data and maintain required service documentation.
  • Help students generalize communication skills across classroom, social, and school activities.
  • Collaborate with SLPs, teachers, behavior specialists, paraprofessionals, and other members of the student’s educational team.
  • Participate in IEP and educational team meetings as appropriate, with an SLP present.

As part of our school-based special education team, you’ll work alongside a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, educators, behavior specialists, and support staff to help students build meaningful communication skills throughout their school day.

Your Role:

You will work directly with students under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to support communication skills that strengthen learning, relationships, and independence.

Responsibilities include:
