Job Description

The SLP-A will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide educationally related speech and language therapy services to students in the District experiencing speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. This support will be aligned with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to improve their communication skills, which are essential for academic success and social interaction.

Knowledge:
  1. Establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with students, their families, colleagues, and supervisors.
  2. Actively engage in activities with students including play, bend, kneel, lift, and sit at a child’s level.
  3. Ability to apply common sense understanding and to communicate options and solutions when several variables exist.
  4. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  5. Exhibit compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including: HIPAA, FERPA; reimbursement requirements; and state statutes and rules regarding SLPA education, training, and scope of practice.
Responsibilities:
  1. Modify and differentiate lessons to meet student needs and progress, with guidance from the supervising SLP.
  2. Ensure all IEP paperwork, including progress reports, is provided to supervising SLP and Team Chair within required timelines.
  3. Develop and adhere to a daily schedule.
  4. Develop and implement creative, appropriate lessons/materials to ensure progress towards student IEP goals.
  5. Assist SLP with screening, assessments, occupational therapy services, as directed.
  6. Adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities for teacher use in the classroom.
  7. Assist in maintaining student data and reports.
  8. Implement behavior management programs for students as designed by certified staff, observe and report significant student behavior, behavioral patterns, etc. to the SLP.
  9. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as directed.
  10. Perform other related tasks or duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
Evaluation:

Annually by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services with input from the Building Principals and SLP.

Salary & Benefits:

To be negotiated with the Superintendent of Schools

Job Requirements
  • Associate’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university. Possess and maintain valid certification with the Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Knowledge of Massachusetts and federal special education regulations. Experience working in an educational setting or other appropriate experience.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
