Job summary

AREA(S):

EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION

POSITION SUMMARY:

A person assigned to this position provides evaluations, therapy, and consultative services to students to encourage further development in his/her communication in the educational setting. This position is under the supervision of the assigned administrator.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education – Master’s level Speech-Language Pathologist with either a Florida Department of Education (FDOE) certification (Section 1012.56 (F.S.), Educator certification requirements State of Board of Education Rule 6A-4.0176, F.A.C.) or a Florida Department of Health (DOH) license (Chapter 468, Part I- Florida Statutes).
  • Experience - Computer Skills – Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoors/Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: NOTE:

  • Attend problem-solving team meetings as needed.
  • Diagnostic services as required at each school beyond the universal screening process or as a result of a referral.
  • Provide therapy or consultative services to the students eligible in the following areas:
    • Speech sound disorder-phonological or articulation.
    • Fluency disorder-characterized by deviations in continuity, smoothness, rhythm, or effort in spoken communication.
    • Voice disorder- atypical production or absence of vocal quality, pitch, loudness, resonance, or duration of phonation.
  • Language impairment- difficulties in one or more of the following areas:
    • Listening comprehension.
    • Oral expression.
    • Social interaction.
    • Emergent literacy skills (PK age).
    • Written expression (KG and older).
    • Phonological processing (KG and older).
    • Reading comprehension (KG and older).
  • Complete paperwork in the following areas:
    • Medicaid for eligible students.
    • Therapy documentation.
    • Consultation/learning management paperwork.
    • Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or private school service plan (SP) paperwork.
    • Evaluation reports.
    • Therapy progress reports.
  • Attend IEP or Service Plan meetings as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

L-Light Work – Required to push, pull or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
