Job summary

Lakeland School Corporation is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents and students to provide diagnostic and intervention services for speech, language, and hearing disorders, helping students access the general education curriculum.

The SLP will supervise assistants and participate in eligibility determinations, IEP development and service delivery in alignment with state and district requirements.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) is required.
  • Experience with IEP processes and collaboration with families and school staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, screen, and evaluate students and share results with parents and staff.
  • Develop and implement IEPs for students with speech/language impairments.
  • Provide direct and consultative services for speech, language, and hearing disorders.
  • Maintain confidential student records and progress data.
  • Collaborate with parents and school communities to support student growth.
  • Participate in meetings to address student goals and district policies.
  • Supervise speech-language pathology assistants as needed.
  • Adhere to district policies and procedures in delivery of services.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and comply with contract hours.
  • Utilize technology and software used in the education setting.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development as required by state or district.
  • Contribute to overall student access to general education curriculum.

Job description

Job Summary

Lakeland School Corporation's Speech-Language Pathologist will work in cooperation with administrators, teachers, parents and student to provide diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language, and hearing disorders by helping students to adjust and access the general education curriculum.The speech-language pathologist also supervises speech-language pathologist assistant(s).

Responsibilities
  • 1.Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice
  • 2.Develop and implement individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to school/state requirements.
  • 3.Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development and individual student needs by providing relevant instruction according to the IEP and educational best practices
  • 4.Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner
  • 5.Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to speech impairments, expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language
  • 6.Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the therapy program
  • 7.Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrative and school staff
  • 8.Participate in various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies
  • 9.Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students
  • 10.Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract
  • 11.Implement and comply with District policies and procedures
  • 12.Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school district policies and procedures
Required Skills and Abilities
  • 1.Knowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to assignment
  • 2.Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices
  • 3.Knowledge of and skills in administering, scoring and interpreting communication assessments
  • 4.Knowledge and understanding of child development and communication development
  • 5.Knowledge of and skills in best practice instruction specific to various disabilities
  • 6.Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior
  • 7.Skills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growth.
  • 8.Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping
  • 9.Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instruction
  • 10.Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting
  • 11.Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators
  • 12.Ability to maintain confidentiality
Education

Master's Degree and must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)

Continuing Education

Must be willing to submit to continuing training as required by the State or the school to maintain the position.

Experience

Related job field work experience with demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision.

Required Physical Skills

Ability to sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear.

Required General Skills

Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to process tasks using internal software, including current media center software, internet and generally accepted office software such as word and excel.Exceptional organizational skills.
