Job summary

Easterseals Southwest Florida is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide direct services to Academy students with special needs, including assessments, treatment planning, and documentation. You will also consult with instructional staff for preschool through Grade 12 students with AAC needs and implement speech-language therapy under physician orders.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from an ASHA-accredited university.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist with AAC experience.
  • CCC-SLP credential and Florida DOH license required.
  • Valid driver’s license; CPR/First Aid preferred.
  • Background check and drug test required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screenings of clients and obtain necessary data to determine the need for intervention and treatment planning.
  • Serve as liaison to client, family, and team to coordinate evaluation findings and treatment plans.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment as indicated by physician orders.
  • Develop home or community programming to support client performance.
  • Document assessment, treatment, follow-up, and discharge information.
  • Collaborate with Academy staff on communication interventions in classrooms and adapt environments to meet needs.
  • Provide training for visual supports and low-/high-tech communication systems in classrooms.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of speech therapy programs.

Provide direct services to Easterseals Academy Students with special needs, including assessments, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication. This position also provides consultation to Instructional Staff for preschool through Grade 12 students with Alternative/Augmentative Communication needs. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides Speech-Language Therapy under physicians’ orders to evaluate and treat Communication Delays and Disorders.

Education:

Master’s degree in communication sciences and Disorders from an ASHA-accredited University.

Experience:

A minimum of five years’ experience as a Speech‑Language Pathologist with experience working with children who have Alternative/Augmentative Communication needs. Have a working knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Significant experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum is preferred.

Required Credentials:

Must have a valid Driver’s License. Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and a Department of Health License from the state of Florida. Florida Medicaid number and National Provider Identifier number preferred. CPR/First Aid Certification is preferable, but we will train to obtain certification. All employees must pass a background screening and a drug test to be employed.

  • Monitor the client’s response to intervention and modify treatment as indicated to attain goals by physician orders.
  • Develop appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the client in his/her environment.
  • Document results of client’s assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services. Participate in discharge planning.
  • Work with Academy Staff on communication interventions for the classrooms and modify classroom environments to meet the communication needs of the students.
  • Conduct training as needed for visual support strategies to use in classrooms.
  • Conduct training using low-tech and high-tech communication systems.
  • Review the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual speech therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
