Job description

The Speech-Language Pathologist identifies students with communication disabilities; plans and implements appropriate treatment to minimize the impact on student success; recommends treatment plans; and provides direction to support personnel.

Essential Functions

• Assesses students’ communication skills at the second-grade level, as well as teacher and parent speech and/or language screening referrals (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language) to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations.
• Collaborates with parents, teachers, physicians, administrators, team members, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
• Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g., testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, quarterly progress reports) to present evaluation results, develop treatment plans, and provide training to parents, students, and staff.
• Develops and implements treatment plans, interventions, and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with DESE and ASHA requirements.
• Instructs eligible students in the use of communication technologies (e.g., hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices) to minimize the educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements.
• Instructs assigned support staff and supports family members by providing information on communicative disorders, assistive devices, feeding techniques, and implementation of prescribed treatment plans.
• Interacts consistently with students to educate and support learning.
• Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech-Language Pathologist experience and goals to ensure treatment and intervention plans are appropriate and compliant with DESE regulations.
• Maintains files and records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results) to ensure information availability for reference and compliance purposes.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training, IEPs, team meetings) to convey and gather information.
• Provides aural rehabilitative and counseling services to individuals with hearing loss and their families to recommend personal improvement methods and at-home techniques.
• Researches resources and methods (e.g., intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools, community resources) to determine appropriate approaches for addressing student needs.
• Responds to inquiries and concerns regarding student communication issues from parents, teachers, staff, and students to provide information and/or referrals as appropriate.

• Certificate of Clinical Competence, State License required
• Must Maintain Certificate/License
• Must pass a pre-employment background check. (criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance)
