Job summary

Southside Elementary School, supported by Applitrack, seeks a Special Education/Teacher Assistant to aid certified staff in meeting instructional goals. You will reinforce reading, math, language arts, and computer skills, support IEP objectives, and help manage classroom behavior to keep students engaged.

Under supervision, you will assist with assessments, prep materials, parent contact, and supervision during meals, buses, field trips, and other non-instructional times.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; Sign Language skills preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions; basic arithmetic to assist in learning activities.
• Proficiency with Word/Excel and standard software used in classroom settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning and implement programs.
• Assist in administration and correction of tests and assessments.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials per student needs.
• Assist with record-keeping to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Supervise students in non-instructional areas (lunch, bus, playground, etc.).
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Create and distribute educational materials as needed.
• Assist with parent contact to foster involvement.
• Support students with disabilities to maximize inclusion and meet IEP objectives.
• Participate in IEP process as needed.
• Assist with daily living activities for students with disabilities.
• Follow safety rules for all students, including those with disabilities.
• May assist in training other teaching assistants.
• Assist with student hygiene needs (toileting).
