Job summary

Washington County Board of Education in Johnson City, TN is seeking a Special Education (SPED) Teacher to provide developmentally appropriate services for students with disabilities. The teacher will adapt instruction to cognitive, physical, social-emotional, and communication needs and maintain required documentation in accordance with IDEA and state regulations.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and a valid TN teaching license with the appropriate SPED endorsement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Valid TN license with SPED endorsement acceptable to TN Dept. of Education; First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
• Must have or be willing to obtain Conflict Resolution/Restraint Training.
• Pre-employment Physical Exam required.

Responsibilities

• Assumes day-to-day classroom operation, may include general ed integration with the general teacher.
• Provides direct instruction within classroom, small group, and 1:1 settings.
• Develops and maintains IEPs and conducts parent meetings with fidelity to progress toward goals.
• Cooperatively designs and implements IEPs focused on improving skill deficits and celebrates achievements.
• Plans curriculum and prepares lessons considering individual needs and abilities.
• Employs special education strategies to improve development of language, cognition or memory.
• Maintains required reports/data per IDEA and state law.
• Administers diagnostic tests and monitors student progress regularly.
• Seeks services through community resources to meet needs of exceptional students.
