Job summary

AMS Schools is seeking passionate Special Education (SPED) teachers for current and future openings in the Phoenix and Mesa area. You will deliver specialized instruction, implement IEPs, and collaborate with families and campus teams to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth.

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree and Arizona teaching certification or eligibility; SPED certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Arizona teaching certification or eligibility to obtain applicable certification.
• Special Education certification, endorsement, or applicable eligibility preferred.
• Experience with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, progress monitoring, and documentation.
• Strong classroom and behavior-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain student IEPs in accordance with requirements.

About the Role

AMS is seeking passionate and student-focused Special Education (SPED) Teachers interested in current and future opportunities across our Phoenix and

Mesa-area campuses.

As a SPED Teacher, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs while ensuring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are implemented effectively. You will collaborate closely with general education teachers, families, campus leadership, and student support teams to help students make meaningful academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress.

What You’ll Do

• Provide specialized instruction and individualized support to students receiving special education services.

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain student IEPs in accordance with applicable requirements and timelines.

• Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and use data to adjust instruction and interventions.

• Maintain accurate documentation, service records, progress reports, and other required special education records.

• Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations, modifications, and instructional support.

• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and related-service providers.

• Support students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.

• Implement applicable Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and other student support strategies.

• Provide instruction in individual, small-group, inclusion, or other appropriate learning environments based on student needs.

• Support compliance with special education requirements, timelines, and campus procedures.

• Build positive relationships with students and families while maintaining consistent communication regarding student progress.

• Participate in professional development, team meetings, and campus-wide initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

• Appropriate Arizona teaching certification or eligibility to obtain applicable certification.

• Special Education certification, endorsement, or applicable eligibility preferred.

• Experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.

• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, progress monitoring, and special education documentation.

• Strong classroom and behavior-management skills.

• Ability to use student data to guide instruction and interventions.

• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

• Commitment to maintaining high expectations while providing individualized student support.

• Ability to work effectively with students, families, general education teachers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
