Job summary

Meadowlark Elementary School in Salt Lake City, UT, is hiring a Part-Time Student Support Assistant (SPED) to assist Special Education teachers with individual and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals. The role includes health-related support for medically fragile students, as well as daily living and less intensive independence activities.

The position operates on an hourly calendar with pay starting at $17.50 per hour, reporting to the Administrative Designee.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and child development; classroom management.
• Hold or obtain First Aid Certificate
• Complete Safety Care Training
• Attend Annual Health Services Training
• Ability to perform basic math including fractions, percentages, and ratios
• Ability to administer first aid
• English communication including grammar and punctuation
• Maintain composure and patience in challenging situations
• Use basic office equipment and Microsoft Office
• Understand IEP concepts for Special Education

Responsibilities

• Assist SPED students with objectives related to independence and life skills.
• Complete Safety Care Training.
• Implement student programs for IEP goals under supervision.
• Provide health care assistance to medically fragile students as needed.
• Assist with bus loading/unloading and student transfers.
• Move and reposition students to aid mobility and use wheelchairs or lifts.
• Provide one-on-one support and monitor groups to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Collect data to monitor progress on IEP goals.
• Perform clerical tasks and maintain student records.
• Communicate with staff while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Attend meetings and participate in professional development.
• Work under limited supervision with time-management and prioritization.
• Collaborate with team members to fulfill duties.
• Maintain regular attendance and support efficient operation of the school
