Job summary

Yupiit School District in Alaska is seeking a SPED Paraprofessional to support a student with disabilities under the supervision of the special education teacher. You will stay with the student throughout the school day and help implement IEP goals.

Requirements include a High School diploma and at least two years of general office experience; willingness to participate in test-prep to become Highly Qualified; ability to work in a cross-cultural, confidential, team-based environment; and

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent plus at least two years demonstrated successful experience in general office work.
• Experience with exceptional children is desirable.
• Must be Highly Qualified paraprofessional or pass the assessment within 60 days of hire.
• Must participate in a test-preparation program 3 days per week after school to become Highly Qualified if not already.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher with management and education of a child enrolled in special education.
• Coordinate special education curriculum and classroom activities for assigned student.
• Monitor assigned student's progress in IEP goals.
• Assist with parent conferences and participate in I.E.P. meetings for assigned student.
• Maintain records of student work and behavior.
• Complete required reports and submit them on specified days.
• Learn and apply prescribed exercises and speech/language exercises for the student.
• Implement I.E.P. goals for students in conjunction with the special education teacher.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction as directed.
