Job summary

Medford School District 549C is seeking a Special Education Assistant I for McLoughlin Middle School in Medford, Oregon. The role is a permanent 7-hour day position (193 days) assisting teachers and supporting students with and without disabilities.

Responsibilities include classroom supervision, materials preparation, IEP support, and coordinating testing and progress records, while adhering to district policies and confidentiality rules.

Qualifications

• Ability to interact with teachers, staff, community members, and students.
• Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality and positive team spirit.
• Requires paraprofessional certification as per district requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher in the instructional setting.
• Maintains classroom discipline using appropriate methods for children with and without disabilities.
• Organizes and manages student work under teacher direction.
• Assists teachers in correcting and recording student work and in testing students.
• Supervises class for short periods.
• Assists students with daily work.
• Reads aloud to students.
• Assists students on computers and with various computer programs and testing programs.
• Works directly with students with a variety of special needs.
• Implements planned activities using teacher-designed methods and materials for individual and small student groups for instructional support.
• Supervises various student activities, including the playground, cafeteria, bus loading and unloading, field trips, hallways, and other areas where students gather.
• Prepares and provides clerical support to the teacher for instructional materials using various office equipment, resource materials, AV equipment, copying, faxing, etc.
• Maintains accurate records and records gathered information within the scope of District policies and state and federal laws, maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Obtains necessary instructional materials from a variety of sources.
• Assists with toileting students who are incontinent or require assistance with catheterization or transfer. Provides other personal care needs to students, including diapering as necessary.
• Administer medications within the scope of District policies and state and federal laws, including, but not limited to, diabetes management and insulin administration using an insulin pen or a non-needle injection system.
• Assists with wheelchair transfers as required by student needs.
• Implements Individual Education Plan (IEP) modifications at the teacher's request
• Schedules and assists with IEP meetings.
