Job summary

Qualifications

  • College hours 48 minimum or score 464 on the ParaPro test for Title I campus
  • College hours 15 or high school diploma or GED with a passing ParaPro score of 464 for Non-Title I campus
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to policies related to special education aides
  • Participate in trainings and professional growth activities
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program
  • Maintain student records, audit folders and data collection
  • Assist with instructional materials and equipment
  • Assist with activities, exercises and drills
  • Assist with self-care activities for students
  • Assist in implementing therapy programs requiring lifting/positioning
  • Attend professional meetings as required
  • Provide orientation to substitute teachers
  • Physically prompt students as needed
  • Other SHARS duties as assigned
  • Provide personal care as identified in IEPs
