Job summary

UPMC Jameson, located in New Castle, PA, is currently hiring a Full-Time Specimen Processor to work weekdays, primarily a 5:00AM to 1:30PM shift, with rotating weekend (6:00AM to 2:30PM) and rotating holiday responsibility. No on-call or travel required.

Candidates with office experience and knowledge of laboratory orders preferred. Responsibilities include processing specimens, labeling, and coordinating with the Laboratory Information System.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate service orientation and courtesy in all interactions; monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely processing of specimens.
• Investigate and resolve specimen problems; complete quality forms for unacceptable specimens and transfer as defined by policy.
• Determine and enter specimen receive time into the computer; answer inquiries regarding proper specimen collection, results, and normal ranges.
• Verify patient specimens match requisitions or labels; properly request lab information system entries when needed.
• Receive, sort and prioritize all specimens per laboratory policies; notify supervisor of problems or requests needing clarification.
• Disinfect work area after shift; participate in orientation and training of new staff; perform routine clerical duties.
