Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to identify and evaluate proper specimen collection and storage.
• Manual dexterity and acuity to prepare specimens, screen specimens, prepare solutions, and operate instrumentation and a computer.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Ensures proper labeling and identification of specimens and requisition forms.
• Inventories and maintains adequate supplies for laboratories and restocks workstations.
• Monitors reagent and supplies and communicates needs to maintain inventory.
• Receives, archives, and discards specimens according to procedures.
• Prepares benches and work stations for daily workload and reloads instruments.
• Prepares infectious biohazardous waste for transport per policy.
• Monitors equipment temperature and maintains charts; initiates corrective action.
• Organizes and files specimens; assists in retrieval for testing.
• Performs send-out tasks, including packing lists and scanning requisitions.
• Assists with specimen receipt and triage, documenting discrepancies.
