Job summary

UCSF AIDS Specimen Bank is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Assistant III to process specimens, perform data entry, and inventory samples. The role involves handling PBMCs, serum, plasma, and other specimens with occasional off-site storage travel.

You will monitor freezers, prepare media, and assist with shipping of frozen specimens while maintaining a clean lab and accurate records. Strong organization and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with laboratory experience.
• Ability to lift 30–40 pounds; heavy racks for frozen specimens.
• Strong organization and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to access temperature monitoring systems remotely.
• Willingness to respond to after-hours freezer alarms.

Responsibilities

• Process PBMCs, serum, plasma, urine, and tissues and inventory samples.
• Perform data entry in LDMS and spreadsheets.
• Retrieve specimens and consolidate storage.
• Record freezer temperatures and monitor alarms.
• Assist in preparing biohazardous shipments.
• Maintain clean, organized laboratory work areas.
• Perform QC/QA of frozen samples for deposits or shipments.
• Make sterile media and chemical solutions.
• Address labeling and data entry errors; investigate issues.
• Respond to delayed or lost shipments and report to supervisor.
