Job summary

O’Connell Robertson in Austin, TX seeks a Specification Writer with a 7+ year track record in architectural projects to develop complete, accurate project manuals. You will coordinate specs, support research and material evaluation, and advise project teams on standards and content, working within a collaborative, growth-focused firm.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience supporting architectural projects.
• Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or related field from an accredited program.
• Experience coordinating architectural specifications and project manuals.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials and building systems.
• Excellent organization, communication and collaboration skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple project deadlines.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam and/or Adobe Acrobat; SpecLink preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate specifications with drawings and consultant docs for consistency.
• Lead specification kickoff and coordination meetings.
• Support material research, evaluation and selection.
• Advise teams on specification content and standards.
• Manage specifications throughout design and construction, including revisions and addenda.
• Collaborate with manufacturers and industry reps to maintain current knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with firm standards, codes, and QA objectives.
• Help improve specification standards and templates.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT AT O'CONNELL ROBERTSON...

• Coordinate specifications with architectural drawings and consultant documentation to ensure consistency and completion.
• Facilitate specification kickoff meetings, coordination meetings, and specification review sessions.
• Support material and product research, evaluation, and selection.
• Advise project teams on specification content, standards, and best practices.
• Manage project specifications throughout the design and construction process, including revisions, addenda, proposal requests, and ASIs.
• Collaborate with manufacturers and industry representatives to maintain current product knowledge and technical resources.
• Ensure compliance with firm standards, building codes, owner requirements, and quality assurance objectives.
• Support continuous improvement of specification standards, templates, and project delivery processes

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR ROLE...

We’re looking for passionate, driven self-starters. Beyond that, you’ll need…

• 7+ years' experience supporting architectural projects.
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or a related field from an accredited program.
• Experience preparing and coordinating architectural specifications and project manuals.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, building systems, and construction documentation.
• Excellent organization, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam and/or Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience with SpecLink or similar specification software is preferred
