Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Specialty Veterinary Technician to work in our Radiology and Oncology departments!

Pay: $22.00 - $44.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

A BluePearl Technician is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are essential. Preferably, candidates have two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients, supporting clinicians with patient care, and communicating effectively with clients.

As a Radiology & Oncology Technician, your responsibilities include:

  • Performing physical exams and monitoring vital signs.
  • Understanding normal vital and lab parameters and alerting the doctor to abnormalities.
  • Preparing and restraining patients for ultrasounds.
  • Monitoring patients during anesthesia or sedation.
  • Performing phlebotomy and placing peripheral IV catheters.
  • Calculating basic medical math.
  • Setting up materials for chemotherapy administration and safely dispensing oral and injectable chemotherapy agents.
  • Checking chemotherapy calculations and dosages.
  • Properly shaving and wrapping for IV catheter placement for chemotherapy infusion.
  • Understanding chemotherapy extravasation procedures.
  • Admitting oncology patients, obtaining thorough histories, and providing discharge instructions.
  • Maintaining knowledge of veterinary medical terms and communicating effectively with veterinary professionals.
  • Addressing client concerns and facilitating communication during visits or after hospitalization.
  • Understanding tumor types and diagnostic work-up protocols.
  • Assisting with anesthesia and monitoring equipment for ASA I or II classified patients.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Remaining current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrating proficiency as assigned.
  • Maintaining hospital operations such as stocking and cleaning.
