Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for our Weight Loss Specialty Clinic in West Des Moines, IA. The role focuses on clinical assessment, education, medication support, and ongoing follow-up to help patients achieve health goals.

You will collaborate with providers and the care team to develop sustainable weight-management plans and provide ongoing coaching and support in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license active in-state or compact license.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.
• RN levels welcome; prior weight loss/specialty care experience a plus but not required.
• May be required to float to other UnityPoint Clinic locations to support staffing.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient calls and messages to determine needs and next steps.
• Provide patient education and ongoing support on weight management, nutrition, medications, and lifestyle changes.
• Monitor patient progress, treatment response and potential medication side effects.
• Assist with medication management and follow-up for weight loss medications.
• Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, testing, and care plans.
• Communicate concerns and progress with providers and care team.
• Support patients in setting realistic goals and sustaining progress.
• Offer individualized coaching to help patients adopt sustainable lifestyle changes.
• Document assessments, education, care plans, and follow-up in the EHR.
• Maintain a supportive, respectful, nonjudgmental environment throughout care.

Education

Active/Unencumbered RN license in state of practice or compact license including state of practice

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Weight Loss Specialty Clinic at Methodist Downtown Des Moines. This is a great opportunity for nurses who are passionate about helping patients achieve their health and wellness goals while providing personalized, ongoing support. In this role, you will support patients throughout their weight management journey by providing clinical assessment, education, medication support, and ongoing follow-up. • Assist with medication management, including patient education and follow-up related to weight loss medications.
• Coordinate follow-up appointments, referrals, testing, and other aspects of the patient’s care plan.
• Communicate patient concerns, progress, and clinical findings with providers and members of the care team.
• Support patients in setting realistic goals and maintaining progress throughout their weight management journey.
• Provide individualized coaching and encouragement to help patients develop sustainable lifestyle changes.
• Accurately document patient assessments, education, care plans, and follow-up in the electronic health record.
• Promote a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment for patients throughout their care.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – Active/Unencumbered RN license in state of practice or compact license including state of practice.

• All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in weight loss or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
