Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. is seeking a pharmacy technician to support the Specialty Pharmacy team, focusing on heart failure and other clinic patients. You will assist with filling, financial assistance, prior authorizations, and patient care workflows in a non-remote setting.

Qualifications

  • Registered as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy.
  • PTCB certified pharmacy technician.
  • Ambulatory/pharmacy experience including third party adjudication/order entry.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and interpret prescriptions, review patient profiles, and clarify with prescribers as needed.
  • Prepare and dispense all drugs, including refills, for patient use as ordered.
  • Support daily workflows and ensure completion of tasks for pharmacy operations.
  • Route patient questions to pharmacists and appropriate providers.
  • Complete assigned administrative tasks promptly.
  • Adhere to federal, state, local, and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Identify and participate in process improvement opportunities.
  • Assist pharmacists with students, residents, and training new staff as required.

Job description

Overview

This role will support the FirstHealth Specialty Pharmacy team. We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic pharmacy technician to support our system's specialty pharmacy and its patients. This role will support our operations of the specialty pharmacy (filling, financial assistance, prior authorizations, etc) for our heart failure clinic patients as well as participate as back up roles for ID and Oncology patients and normal operations of the specialty pharmacy. The pharmacy technician will have great communication, organization, and team-building skills with a thorough understanding of patient care workflows.

This role is not remote.

Responsibilities
  1. Receives and interprets prescriptions while reviewing the patient's medication profile/history. Clarifies prescriptions with the prescriber, nurse, or other health professional, as appropriate. Identifies problems related to the medication needs of the patient and requests assistance from pharmacists.
  2. Prepares and dispenses all drugs, including refills, for patient use as ordered and as appropriate.
  3. Involved in daily workflows and ensures completion of all necessary tasks for optimal functioning of the pharmacy.
  4. When talking with patients, routes all questions and concerns to pharmacists or appropriate providers within the clinic.
  5. Complete assigned administrative tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  6. Adheres to federal, state, local, and institutional policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.
  7. Identifies and participates in process improvement opportunities.
  8. Helps pharmacists with students, residents and participates in training new pharmacy staff as required.
Qualifications
Required
  • Registered as a technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • Previous ambulatory pharmacy experience, including third party adjudication/order entry.
  • Certified as a pharmacy technician through the Pharmacy Technician Board (PTCB).
  • Computer skills.
Preferred
  • Previous specialty pharmacy experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record, Asembia specialty platform, and/or Rx30 pharmacy system
