Job summary

CHRISTUS Children's is seeking a Milk Preparation Tech to store, prepare and deliver mother’s own or pasteurized donor human milk to hospitalized infants. You will support mothers expressing milk and ensure feeding orders are followed with careful labeling and documentation.

Responsibilities include weighing, measuring, and preparing milk per physician orders, maintaining strict sanitation, monitoring inventories, and coordinating with lactation consultants and nursing staff to ensure safe,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year Nutrition or Breastfeeding education experience preferred.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately weighs, measures, and prepares mother’s own and/or pasteurized donor human milk for infant feeding per physician’s orders.
• Calculates accurate quantities of mother’s own/pasteurized donor human milk and human milk fortifiers based on diet order.
• Uses approved techniques and equipment to prepare milk.
• Maintains sanitation standards in the milk storage and prep area with daily sanitation of work areas.
• Keeps proper storage times and temperatures for human milk to minimize bacterial growth.
• Documents and delivers properly labeled human milk feedings to appropriate patient care area.
• Delivers prepared milk to the appropriate nursing areas on a scheduled daily delivery and PRN.
• Monitors and maintains all milk preparation/storage equipment and supplies per policy.
• Maintains daily inventory and stock of all Milk storage supplies and equipment.
• Communicates with lactation consultants, nurses, and parents to ensure accurate milk preparation and storage.
• Contacts manager/ lactation consultant or dietician for assistance with feeding orders and safety of maternal medication use.
