Job summary

Barnes & Noble is seeking a Specialty Inventory Manager to orchestrate store-level buying and inventory allocation across a broad product mix. You will partner with buyers, distribution centers, and merchandising systems to ensure optimal stock levels that support display, sales, and sell-through targets.

You will apply retail math, analyze sales trends, and balance competing priorities to maximize margins. The role is based in NYC with full-time hours and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with at least 3 years of experience in retail analysis.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to think critically; communicate complex ideas clearly.
• Adaptable to fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborative but decisive when needed, and receptive to feedback.
• Thorough knowledge of retail math and experience with reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate inventory buy levels and allocations across stores.
• Analyze store sales, profiles and demographics to set initial buy levels.
• Collaborate with buyers, distribution centers, and merchandising systems teams.
• Replenish inventory and adjust strategies to optimize sell-through and margins.
• Report analytics to support margin, sales, and sell-through goals.
• Recommend expansions or contractions of products and promotions based on data.
• Monitor inventory lifecycle from introduction to Last Chance and exit.
