Job summary

Gateway Region YMCA is seeking a part-time class instructor to lead wellness sessions. The role emphasizes safety, participant engagement, and fitness assessment within a supportive group setting.

You will provide pre-class instructions, monitor participants, and adapt activities to accommodate diverse fitness levels while maintaining a clean, safe wellness space. Training and certifications are required, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 18 years or older.
• 1+ years’ experience as a participant, leader, instructor, or equivalent.
• Certification through specialty format required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates safe and effective exercise technique and adapts for participants.
• Gives pre-class instructions and explains goals and target heart rate.
• Screens students for risk factors and medical limitations preventing participation.
• Sets up equipment, ensures safe flooring and maintains cleanliness of the wellness area.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
