The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Dental assistants prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental assistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dental assistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner. A successful dental assistant will execute active listening to objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others, keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants support clinicians within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric dentistry, often requiring additional training.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Actively participate in the PPE by focusing on patient needs and concerns.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to team members as appropriate.
  4. Communicate with the front and back office teams to ensure smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment according to infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to provide efficient, quality care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently and timely, as directed by the clinician.
  9. Prepare tray setups and maintain supplies in each operatory.
  10. Keep the patient's mouth dry and clear during procedures.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care as directed.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician’s notes in the digital chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history to the clinician.
  14. Ensure equipment is maintained per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure supplies are available.
  16. Learn and operate technology, providing explanations to others as needed.
  17. Participate in team meetings and daily huddles.
  18. Model company culture and values.
  19. Implement the Perfect Patient Experience to gain Patients for Life.
  20. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, addressing others respectfully.
  21. Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, with required state training or certification.
  • Valid licenses, certifications, or registrations as mandated by state.
  • For Specialty Dental Assistants: valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation, with background checks.

Preferred

  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable.

Compensation: $17.50-$24.25 / Hourly
