Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5+ years experience, or a Master’s with 3+ years.
  • Assist planning and execution of work, produce technical instructions and procedures, track procurement/budget, write submittals.
  • Experience making technical presentations and leading laboratory operations in a productive, timely, compliant manner.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, drawings and engineering standards.
  • Plan and execute work programs, design experiments, analyze results, and prepare technical reports.

Position Summary:

We are searching for a Specialized Engineer (Welding) to join our team in West Mifflin, PA! This challenging and rewarding position offers opportunities to continue developing and expanding technical skills through complex assignments involving established as well as novel technologies, and interpersonal skills through numerous interfaces.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Primary responsibilities will include teaming with other engineers as you identify, research, test, and evaluate metallic and non-metallic repair technologies, leveraging existing welding, machining, and other industrial processes.

  • Requires some travel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing, and repair deployment.

  • There is also a Project Management focus on the responsibilities of the position, including project planning, assignment of work, coordination of resources, and reporting of project performance within our broader repair technology development community.


Requirements

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Must be able to assist the planning, follow, and execution of work efforts; conceive and produce technical instructions and procedures; track procurement actions/budget performance; and write technical submittals and recommendations.

  • Must have experience making technical presentations and able to lead/execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.

  • Must have the ability to learn to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.

  • Must be able to plan and execute work programs, design experiments, analyze experiment results, and prepare technical reports.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Should be able to help develop, test, evaluate, and eventually qualify repair procedures in the laboratory, and consult with various fabrication vendors and shipyards to facilitate technology transfer.

  • Repair operations which may be supported include gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, epoxies/composites, and mechanical/machining processes.

  • Candidates that have demonstrated acumen in executing laboratory work are preferred.

  • Familiarity with inspection methods is a plus.

  • Excellent individual initiative and creativity will enhance the successful candidate's value in this position.


Security Clearance:

Candidates must possess a DOE L Security Clearance.
