Tempe School District No.3 Sanchez- Student Success seeks a Specialist – Visually Impaired to support preschool through 8th-grade students in inclusive settings. You will develop, implement and monitor IEPs, collaborate with classroom teachers, and engage families for student growth.

Qualifications include VI certification and a master’s in special education preferred. Travel to multiple sites is required; the role reports to the Student Support leadership.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To work on an educational team developing, implementing, and monitoring programs favorable to learning and personal growth for visually impaired students (preschool through 8 th grade) in the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Arizona Special Education Teacher certification with Visually Impaired special area
  • Master Degree in special Education (preferred)
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day as assigned
  • Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct appropriate language and academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP’s).
  • Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers regarding student needs and progress.
  • Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress.
  • Participate in the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) process.
  • Plan, conduct and/or participate in in-service professional development activities.
  • Maintain on-going communication (verbal and written) with parents of special education students.
  • Direct activities of instructional assistants and/or personal assistants if applicable.
  • Provide input to performance evaluation for instructional and/or personal assistants to administrators.
  • May be required to participate in student’s meetings which occur beyond the staff’s work assignment schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
