Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Washington, DC is seeking a Specialist, Systems Engineering with active Secret clearance to lead complex projects or programs. You will coordinate with government customers, engineers, and program offices to ensure system integrity and on-time delivery.

You will manage communications, prepare design reviews, generate drawings, and support on-site operations and travel as required. A BA/BS and 4+ years of relevant experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience; 2 year post-secondary/AA Degree and 8 years prior experience or Graduate Degree with 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Active US Secret Security Clearance.
  • Previous work supporting DOD/government contracts for engineering or engineering services.

Responsibilities

  • Customer support through on-site equipment operation, maintenance and installation, and troubleshooting of video control-center displays and encryption equipment.
  • Check out, report on and approve operational quality of system equipment in coordination with engineering personnel.
  • Serve as company liaison with customer on administrative, programmatic and technical matters with the government customer.
  • Support on-site and remote customer meetings and communications with government leadership up to Senior Executive Service.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines to ensure proper coordination of the system aspects of the project.

Job Description:

The Senior Specialist, Systems Engineer is a senior professional with strong knowledge of job area and broad knowledge of project management. Work is performed with general oversight. May manage large projects or processes that are both inside and outside of immediate job area. Typically responsible for managing complex projects at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products. Facilitate communications between government customer, program office and other functional areas within L3Harris. Works to achieve operational targets with direct impact on the departmental results. Work consists of making moderate to substantial improvement or enhancements to systems and processes to improve performance of job area. Problems are generally solved through creative solutions, drawing from prior experience and in-depth analysis of issues.

The Range and Test Solutions business area is responsible for sustaining and upgrading flight test instrumentation including Underwater Acoustics, Telemetry, Communications, Data Recording systems, and/or Radar.

Essential Functions:
  • Customer support through the performance of on-site equipment operation, maintenance and installation, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of video control-center type display, communication, and encryption equipment and systems. Instructs customers and fellow employees in the operation and maintenance of the system.
  • In coordination with engineering personnel, checks out, reports on and approves operational quality of system equipment
  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative, programmatic and technical with the government customer.
  • Supports on-site and remote customer meetings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with government customer organization at all levels of leadership up to and including senior military and Senior Executive Service to resolve customer and program issues.
  • Interfacing with the other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, project, etc.) to ensure proper coordination of the systems aspects of the project.
  • Generate and/or update drawings, parts lists, Engineering Orders, wiring lists, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Creation and presentation of design review materials
  • Verification of system interfaces
  • Must have the ability to travel.
  • Work to influence others to accept individual or team’s views or practices and changes to concepts, practices, and approaches.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, 2 year post-secondary/AA Degree and 8 years prior experience or Graduate Degree with 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Active US Secret Security Clearance.
  • Previous work supporting DOD/government contracts for engineering or engineering services.
Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Experience with operating video display/recording systems, encryption systems, voice/data communications systems, and networking systems.
  • Direct experience working with at least one of the following technologies: Underwater Acoustics, Telemetry, Communications, Data Recording systems, and/or Radar.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, drive, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Salary and Benefits:

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the Greater D.C. area is [$92,500 MIN - $171,500 MAX]. The salary range for this role in Virginia outside the Greater D.C. area is [$80,500 MIN - $149,500 MAX]. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
