Job summary

Texstar Enterprises, Inc. is hiring a Specialist Safety to maintain driver qualification files, track safety compliance, and coordinate drug testing and safety programs. This role supports safety committees, manages equipment inventory, and analyzes data to improve safety performance.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some knowledge of construction safety or telecommunications preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Effective and respectful written and verbal communication with all applicable stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient use of computer hardware and software including Internet and databases; familiarity with Google-based applications preferred.
  • Understanding and use of general arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, units of measure and weight.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Valid driver’s license with favorable driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains driver qualification files including obtaining and reviewing files on hire and as documents expire.
  • Maintains communication internally regarding driver status updates and safety compliance.
  • Accurately classifies and enters new employees into systems and communicates compliance issues to stakeholders.
  • Reviews Motor Vehicle Reports on hire and annually to determine driving eligibility.
  • Updates and disseminates safety compliance reports.
  • Acts as secretary for multiple company safety committees.
  • Sets up and tracks required drug testing, including random tests and follow-up tests.
  • Processes invoices for drug testing and DOT physicals.
  • Manages inventory and distribution of safety equipment and PPE.
  • Aids in managing the SDS program.
  • Analyzes safety compliance data to find trends and make recommendations to Sr. Safety Manager or Safety Director.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What you’ll do

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of administrative experience is required.
  • Some knowledge of construction safety or the telecommunications industry is preferred;
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, correspondence and memos;
  • Effective and respectful written and verbal communication with all applicable stakeholders, both internal and external, at all levels of the organization;
  • Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to solve practical problems;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with a strong attention to detail;
  • Proficient use of computer hardware and software including but not limited to Internet software and databases. Familiarity with Google-based applications is preferred;
  • Understanding and use of general arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, units of measure and weight using whole numbers, fractions and decimals;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends as needed;
