  • Creates, manages, and renews contracts in accordance with state law and regulations (5%).
  • Communicates with faculty and staff about POs; trains staff on purchasing rules and system use (15%).
  • Completes training with Department of Administrative Services to maintain purchasing certification (5%).
  • Completes reporting requirements for various state agencies (5%).
  • Prepares spreadsheets and analysis as required (5%).
  • Assists business office staff with daily duties (5%).
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support Gwinnett Technical College (5%).

Job Description:

This job is a Full time, benefited, FLSA Exempt position in the Administrative Services Division that reports to the Executive Director of Accounting.

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code 31772)
High school diploma or equivalent *and* Three (3) years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum qualifications, a two-year degree from a technical college. Working knowledge of State of Georgia and Gwinnett Technical College purchasing policies and procedures. Experience using PeopleSoft accounting system. A diploma from a postsecondary institution in a business field. Accurate 10-key skills. Working knowledge of Excel. Good organizational skills and works well independently.

Job Description Summary: Under general supervision, the Purchasing Specialist assists the business office staff with daily workload and special projects as identified and assigned.

  • Communicates with faculty and staff related to purchase orders, as needed. This includes training new staff on purchasing rules, navigating the purchasing system, and how to find answers to various purchasing questions.(15%)
  • Completes training with Department of Administrative Services as required to receive/maintain purchasing certification. (5%)
  • Completes reporting requirements in accordance with various state agencies. (5%)
  • Prepares spreadsheets and analysis as required. (5%)
  • Assists business office staff with daily duties as assigned. (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College. (5%)
