Job summary

Salt Lake Community College, through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, seeks a Financial Aid Specialist to help students navigate FAFSA and the financial aid process, meeting them in person, by phone, or virtually.

You will review documents, process aid applications, update weekly reports, and inform students of remaining steps, including Books & Supplies Loans; evening/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–4 years of financial aid or related experience required.
• Familiarity with FAFSA and financial aid regulations preferred.
• Experience with Banner or similar financial aid systems is a plus.

Job Summary

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is part of Salt Lake Community College (SLCC)’s Enrollment Management team dedicated to helping students find the resources to help pay for their education through federal, state, institutional, and private funding.

Priority Consideration

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible to:

• Meet with students to assist in the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Meet with students in person, phone, and virtually to assist in the completion of the financial aid process.
• Work weekly reports to update, review, and process aid applications.
• Review, analyze and process documents submitted by students.
• Inform students via e-mail, phone, and in-person of steps to complete the aid process.
• Assist with the processing of Books & Supplies Loans.
• Support office by assisting front desk with students, calls and emails, as needed. Conduct presentations to detail the financial aid process and completion of FAFSA. These take place on and off-campus and may be during evenings and weekends at peak times.
• Assist the Financial Aid Tech Team with special projects.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of computerized financial aid systems, preferably Banner. Knowledge of office software such as: Excel, Word, Teams, Zoom, etc. Knowledge of financial aid regulations and procedures.
• Knowledge of general office procedures.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work alone or with a team.
• Organize and set priorities.
• Work well under pressure in a stressful environment.
• Knowledge of FERPA and privacy laws pertaining to financial aid.
• Knowledge of College policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
• Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One (1) - Four (4) years of financial aid or directly related experience.

Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

Financial aid experience.
