Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Elementary Science Curriculum Specialist works in collaboration with other elementary core content specialist under the direction of the Director of Elementary Curriculum.

All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Curriculum writing experience
  • Professional development design and presentation experience
  • Five years’ job related experience

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Five years’ classroom experience
  • Experience with multiple grade levels
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Expertise in secondary science curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Exceptional knowledge of effective teaching strategies and classroom environments
  • Evidence of success in academically advancing gifted and talented students, English Language Learners, and students with special needs in an inclusive environment
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in the area of planning and presenting professional learning
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate district functions
  • Understanding of the instructional needs of 21 st century learners
  • Works effectively with and lead adult learners
  • Strong technology skills including technology integration
  • Ability to multi-task

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with science directors to develop, review, and modify secondary science curriculum and assessments.

  • Attends weekend and evening events associated with science programs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Required to work extended hours as needed.
