Job summary

Horizon Eye Care is seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to support ophthalmologists and optometrists. You will perform tests such as Humphrey visual fields, OCTs, and fundus photography, and handle imaging data in our system.

You will verify patient information, enter charges, and maintain equipment while ensuring accurate documentation in Axis. Some travel to other locations is required; a high school diploma is essential, and certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of eye anatomy as it pertains to testing.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred.
  • Experience with ophthalmic testing and imaging is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists with tests including Humphrey automated perimetry and diagnostic imaging.
  • Verify patient information and follow testing protocol.
  • Perform and publish visual fields, OCTs, and fundus photography.
  • Manage patient data in Axis and related imaging software.
  • Conduct venipuncture for fluorescein/ICG angiography when required.
  • Maintain testing rooms and equipment; calibrate devices as needed.
  • Travel to other locations as part of the role.

Position Summary

Assists Ophthalmologists and Optometrists by performing various tests including Humphrey automated perimetry and diagnostic imaging. Performs basic device maintenance and room stocking as well as completes all necessary electronic health record forms and other duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fluent use of NextGen EHR and EPM as it pertains to Special Testing, including finding testing orders, opening templates for testing and entering notes, verifying and modifying patient information, entering in patient charges, pulling up testing schedules, and accessing any information pertinent to patient visits.
  • Verifies all patient information and performs test according to the physician’s request following HEC protocol.
  • Performs and publishes Humphrey visual fields; Optic nerve, macula and anterior chamber OCTs; Fundus photography, including optic nerve photos; fluorescein and ICG angiography on both Optos and Zeiss fundus cameras; corneal topography; IOL master and immersion A‑scan biometry; slit lamp photography; endothelial cell count measurements and external photography to our image management software. Ensures correct exams were published and viewable in exam rooms.
  • Performs venipuncture for fluorescein and ICG angiography.
  • Creates, edits, deletes, modifies, prints patient data in Axis, our image management software as needed.
  • Completes IOL calculations in Holladay IOL Consultant software.
  • Perform all testing related duties by themselves at a branch office and also be able stay 1st late at the Cotswold office. Responsible for cleaning and closing all testing rooms, archiving all devices and downloading external photos.
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of all testing equipment as well as minor repairs and coordinates with manager if needed.
  • Develops positive and effective relationships with patients and coworkers.
  • Performs administrative tasks which include responding to inquiries in messaging and voice mail systems. Answers phone, takes messages and relays to appropriate individuals.
  • Performs stocking and maintenance functions. Maintains physical environment of testing rooms. Cleans and stocks rooms daily and maintains appropriate supply per par levels. Assists with ordering medical/office supplies.
  • Some travel to other locations should be expected.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of eye anatomy as it pertains to testing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school preferred.
  • Previous testing related experience preferred.
