The role supports the Transportation & Special Services unit within the Physical Plant Department, performing routine, physically demanding tasks including trash disposal, general asphalt or concrete work, custodial and housekeeping duties. Under close supervision, the employee will assist with events setup and breakdown, basic grounds work, and operate equipment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• No direct experience is required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license is required at time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Empties trash from dumpsters located on the university campus and off-campus facilities.
• Empties and cleans garbage bins. Disposes of trash using mule.
• Manually moves furniture and other heavy items on campus.
• Assists with set-up and break-down for university events.
• Assists with general asphalt and/or concrete work including, but not limited to, seal coating, crack sealing, and asphalt/concrete paving.
• Performs general labor including basic grounds work (mowing, raking, sweeping, yard maintenance, etc.) and basic custodial work (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning).
• Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence with university policies and local, state, and federal laws.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a service position responsible for supporting the operations of the Transportation & Special Services unit withinthe Physical Plant Department. Responsible for performing routinerepetitive work involving various physically demanding tasksincluding, but not limited to, trash disposal, general asphaltand/or concrete work, custodial and housekeeping duties, generallabor, or any combination. Works under close supervision, withminimal latitude for the use of initiative and independentjudgment. Reports to the Special Services Foreperson.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

No direct experience is required. Valid Texas driver’s license isrequired at time of employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Empties trash from dumpsters located on the university campusand off-campus facilities.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Loads and unloads delivery trucks.
2. Operates heavy equipment including dump trucks, trailers, androllers.
3. Drives shuttle bus and transports passengers to designatedlocal and/or distant points as needed.
4. Serves as back up to other departmental staff whenassigned.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, andabilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individualcan perform the essential functions of the job, with or withoutreasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies andprocedures.
2. Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipmentof sanitation and refuse removal.
3. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.
4. Ability to use and operate standard tools and equipment of theprofession, including light and heavy equipment, groundskeepinghand tools and equipment, and motorized and gas-operatedequipment.
5. Ability to repair and maintain sidewalks and parking lots.
6. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
7. Ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license, SFA permit, and vancertification prior to employment.
8. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends asnecessary.
9. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance ofduties.
