Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking a Special Services Coordinator to provide leadership in special education services district-wide. The role focuses on supporting teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to deliver compliant, inclusive instruction and effective IEP management.

You will lead professional development, monitoring, and collaboration with families and external providers, ensuring high-quality services and adherence to IDEA, 504, and state requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required; master’s degree in special education, educational leadership, or a related field preferred
  • Valid Indiana Special Education Teaching License required
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs and collaborating with case conference committees
  • Leadership, coaching, compliance support, professional development, or program coordination in special education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and problem-solving assistance to special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Support the development, review, implementation, and monitoring of high-quality IEPs, including measurable goals, services, accommodations, progress monitoring, and required documentation.
  • Assist in ensuring district compliance with IDEA, Article 7, Section 504, and other applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers, administrators, students, and families regarding special education procedures, programming, instructional practices, and services.
  • Lead coordination of manifestation determination reviews, ensuring timelines and procedures are followed.
  • Develop and implement professional learning for teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families.
  • Support case conferences and serve as chairperson or district representative as assigned.
  • Review special education records for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance, provide corrective guidance.
  • Assist schools with problem-solving related to student programming, LRE, and progress monitoring.
  • Support implementation of the district’s SPED data and IEP management system, including training.
  • Assist with alternative assessment eligibility and implementation processes.
  • Collaborate with administrators, psychologists, service providers, and teachers to coordinate services.
  • Act as liaison between schools, families, and external agencies when necessary.
  • Assist with transition planning between buildings and grade levels and postsecondary planning.
  • Support collection and analysis of student achievement and compliance data to improve SPED outcomes.
  • Remain informed about current research and legal requirements in special education.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle information per FERPA and policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description: Special Services Coordinator

Type of Position: Certified

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Learners

Contract: Teacher Contract + 10 Extended Days

Position Purpose:

The Special Services Coordinator supports the effective delivery of special education services across the district. The coordinator provides leadership, technical assistance, and direct support to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, students, and families; promotes high-quality instruction and inclusive practices; and assists the district in maintaining compliance with federal and state special education requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and problem-solving assistance to special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Support the development, review, implementation, and monitoring of high-quality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including measurable goals, services, accommodations, progress monitoring, and required documentation.
  • Assist in ensuring district compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Article 7, Section 504, and other applicable federal and state special education requirements under the direction of the Director of Exceptional Learners.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers, administrators, students, and families regarding special education procedures, programming, instructional practices, and services.
  • Take the lead in coordinating and facilitating manifestation determination reviews, ensuring compliance with required timelines, procedures, documentation, and student protections
  • Develop and implement professional learning for teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families related to special education compliance, instruction, behavior, inclusion, and evidence-based practices.
  • Support case conference committees and serve as case conference committee chairperson or district representative as assigned.
  • Review special education records and documentation for accuracy, timeliness, procedural compliance, and educational quality; provide corrective guidance and follow-up support as needed.
  • Assist schools with problem-solving related to student programming, least restrictive environment, specially designed instruction, accommodations, behavior supports, and progress monitoring.
  • Support implementation and effective use of the district’s special education data and IEP management system, including staff training and technical assistance.
  • Assist with alternative assessment eligibility and implementation processes in accordance with state requirements.
  • Collaborate with building administrators, school psychologists, related service providers, behavior specialists, teachers, and other staff to coordinate services for students with disabilities.
  • Act as a liaison between schools, families, and external agencies or service providers when necessary.
  • Assist with the transition of students between buildings, programs, and grade levels and support transition planning for students approaching postsecondary education, employment, and independent living.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and use of student achievement, progress-monitoring, discipline, placement, and compliance data to improve special education programming and outcomes.
  • Remain informed about current research, legal requirements, evidence-based instructional practices, and emerging issues in special education.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle student and personnel information in accordance with FERPA, district policy, and applicable law.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Learners or the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required; master’s degree in special education, educational leadership, or a related field preferred

Licensure: Valid Indiana Special Education Teaching License required

Experience: Successful experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting; demonstrated experience developing and implementing IEPs and collaborating with case conference committees

Preferred Experience: Experience providing leadership, coaching, compliance support, professional development, or program coordination in special education

Knowledge: Thorough familiarity with current special education law, compliance requirements, evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices, inclusive programming, and effective services for students with disabilities

Skills: Strong communication, organization, collaboration, problem-solving, data analysis, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and provide clear guidance to staff and families

Contract Details:
