Job Summary

The Coordinator - Special Education supports the Director of Special Education and building principals in coordinating the administrative and program components necessary for the development of effective and comprehensive special education services, both within and outside the District. Serving as the LEA representative at IEP meetings for their assigned caseload, the Coordinator ensures the provision of high-quality special education services. Additionally, the Coordinator - Special Education provides building administration and staff with essential resources and offers guidance on the implementation of appropriate academic programming to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Qualifications
  • Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License with a general administrative endorsement or principal endorsement and an endorsement in special education, social work, or speech language pathology.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience or five years' experience as a related service provider.
  • Prior administrative experience preferred.
  • Completion of required training to evaluate teachers preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Strong background in elementary curriculum and instruction, social emotional learning standards, special education, and the development of IEPs.
  • Ability to work well in a professional community with high expectations for students and schools.
  • Ability to facilitate effective meetings that include teachers, administrators, service providers, and families as participants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, flexible, and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated skills in public and community relations, including the resolution of parent/school conflict.
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development and implementation of special education programs and services for students on the assigned caseload at multiple sites, both within and outside the District.
  • Collaborates with special education teachers, service providers, school psychologists, and families to ensure students with disabilities receive the support outlined in their individualized plans.
  • Manages the scheduling and facilitation of IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Communicates effectively with the special education team, ensuring that all members are prepared with the necessary content for IEP meetings.
  • Regularly communicates with special education teachers, service providers, and families to monitor and assess the effectiveness of special education programming.
  • Participates in the child find process and supports the referral process to identify students who may require special education services.
  • Oversee the assessment process for students referred to for special education services to ensure thorough evaluation and appropriate support.
  • Ensures the accuracy of IEP documentation and adherence to deadlines for all components of the IEP process.
  • Provides clear communication to families regarding the special education process, including referrals, evaluations, annual reviews, and parental rights under IDEA.
  • Assists the Director of Special Education in tasks such as identifying resources for student support, addressing staff concerns, and establishing projections for programming and staffing needs.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for staff and contributes to the development of best practices for supporting students with disabilities.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in a professional learning community.
  • Participating in departmental meetings, committees, and professional development initiatives.
  • Volunteering for school/district events and projects, supporting school/district goals.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range of $76,000 to $86,000 commensurate with school administrative experience.

Board of Education paid TRS.

Annual Administrator Academy provided by the District.
