Job Summary:
The Coordinator - Special Education collaborates with the Director of Special Education and principals to coordinate administrative and programmatic components, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient, effective programs for students being considered for or currently receiving special education services, both within the District and externally. The Coordinator serves as the LEA representative at IEP meetings for their designated caseload. Additionally, the Coordinator provides building administration and staff with special education resources and support, assisting in the implementation of appropriate academic programming for students with special needs.


Qualifications:

  • Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License with a general administrative endorsement or principal endorsement and an endorsement in special education, social work, or speech language pathology.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience or five years' experience as a related service provider.
  • Prior administrative experience preferred.
  • Completion of required training to evaluate teachers preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
  • Strong background in elementary curriculum and instruction, social emotional learning standards, special education, and the development of IEPs.
  • Ability to work well in a professional community with high expectations for students and schools.

Ability to facilitate effective meetings that include teachers, administrators, service providers, and families as participants.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, flexible, and able to work independently.

Demonstrated skills in public and community relations, including the resolution of parent/school conflict.

Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

Ability to prepare and maintain accurate files and records.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the development and implementation of special education programs and services for students on their caseload across multiple sites, both within and outside the District.
  • Collaborates with special education teachers, service providers, school psychologists, and families to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate support based on their individual needs.
  • Manages the scheduling and facilitation of IEP meetings in compliance with federal and state regulations, including IDEA.
  • Communicates with team members to ensure they are well-prepared for IEP meetings.
  • Maintains regular communication with special education teachers, service providers, and families to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programming.
  • Participates in the child find and referral process to identify students with special needs.
  • Oversees the assessment process for students referred for special education services.
  • Ensures accurate IEP documentation and compliance with deadlines for all components of the IEP process.
  • Communicates with families regarding the special education process, including referrals, evaluations, annual reviews, and parental rights under IDEA.
  • Assists the Director of Special Education with:
    • Identifying resources to support students' academic and social/emotional progress.
    • Addressing staff concerns.
    • Establishing yearly projections for staffing and programming to meet student needs; and
    • Providing professional development for staff.
  • Contributes positively to the school community by:
    • Collaborating with colleagues in a professional learning community.
    • Participating in departmental meetings and committees.
    • Engaging in district/school professional development opportunities.
    • Volunteering for school/district events and initiatives; and
    • Supporting school/district goals.
  • Demonstrates a high level of ethics and professionalism in interactions with students, colleagues, administrators, and families.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range of $91,575 to $101,575 commensurate with school administrative experience.
  • Board of Education paid TRS.
  • Annual Administrator Academy provided by the District.

Contract Period and Work Hours:
