Qualifications

• Operating standard office equipment and maintaining accurate records.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities;MANDT training; subject matter taught; and stages of child development.
• Ability to schedule activities; gather data; work with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; and handle frequent interruptions.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education students under the direction of the teacher (e.g., reading, explaining words, reading to students, arts and crafts, etc.) to enable participation in class activities.
• Attend meetings as requested (inservice training, workshops, IEPs) for information exchange.
• Confers with teachers to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Instruct students one-on-one or in small groups to support progress toward IEP goals.
• Maintain instructional materials and student files/records for availability and reliable information.
• Monitor students to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Perform record-keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher in preparing records/materials.
• Record observations and incidents for documentation and communication to appropriate personnel.
• Respond to inquiries from staff for information, direction and referrals.
• Assist other personnel to ensure efficient work environment.
