Job summary

Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, California seeks a Special Procedures Technologist to apply specialized X-ray energy for diagnosis or treatment, image complex procedures, and ensure patient safety and comfort with precise positioning.

You will operate advanced imaging equipment, maintain imaging standards, and communicate with patients and physicians to support accurate diagnoses. The role emphasizes radiation safety and compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • California CRT certification required for radiologic practice.
  • Current California license as Radiologic Technologist with Fluoroscopy permit.
  • CPR/BLS certification per American Heart Association requirements.
  • Fluoroscopy capability and relevant CA credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a broad range of imaging procedures meeting department criteria.
  • Complies with performance expectations for Radiologic Technologist standards.
  • Identifies patient, explains the procedure, and obtains consent when required.
  • Documents procedures accurately and charges in RIS with high precision.
  • Maintains a neat work area and reports equipment issues promptly.
  • Preserves patient privacy, dignity, and comfort during all procedures.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Special Procedures Technologist, you will be a vital clinical professional, applying specialized X-ray energy for patient diagnosis or treatment.

Every day, you'll meticulously perform complex radiological procedures and techniques, producing high-quality images for interpretation by licensed practitioners. You'll ensure patient safety, comfort, and accurate positioning, operating advanced equipment with precision and upholding imaging standards.

To be successful, you'll combine strong technical expertise with exceptional attention to detail, a deep understanding of radiation safety, and a compassionate, patient-focused approach, contributing to accurate diagnoses and effective treatment.

  • Uses independent judgment to assess the particular circumstances of each procedure, performs a broad range of imaging procedures to produce diagnostic medical images that meet the acceptability criteria established by the Department Chairman. Measured by no more than 3 formal complaints by radiologists using the Technologist Audit Form.

  • Complies with all Performance Expectations of Standard III for Radiologic Technologist 95% - 98% of time.

  • Positively identifies patient and correlates procedure with the physician's order. Explains procedure to patient and responds to patient questions/concerns before beginning. Assures written consents are completed before proceeding when required by hospital standard practice. Completes Interdisciplinary Teaching Record (ITR) as appropriate. Measured by record/chart review with 95%-98% compliance.

  • Maintains a neat and clean work area, observes that equipment is in safe operating condition. Reports equipment issues to supervisor or seeks appropriate resources for repair within one hour 95% - 98% of the time; measured by observation and no more than 1-2 formal complaints about faulty equipment and dirty work area per year.

  • Completes all procedures by determining appropriate patient charges and enters all information into R.I.S. 95%-98% of the time. Maintains accurate records of procedure and makes appropriate entries into medical record 95%-98% of the time.

  • Maintains and preserves patient privacy, dignity, and comfort by using table pads, patient gowns, blankets, and sheets, etc. to cover the patient during all procedures 95% - 98% of time. Measured by observation and no more than 1 -2 formal complaints per year in this area.

Job Requirements

Required

  • California State Department of HealthServices certification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

  • Current California license as certifed Radiologic Technologist with Fluoroscopic permit

  • Medical Radiographer: CA

  • Basic Life Support - CPR - authorized by the American Heart Association

  • Fluoroscopy Radiology Tech: CA

Preferred

  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT, upon hire

Pay Range

$62.56 - $72.52 /hour
