Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Special Procedures Radiographer/Interventional Radiology Technologist for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System region. You’ll perform invasive and non-invasive radiologic procedures, review orders, prepare the IR setup, and collaborate with IR staff to produce diagnostic images per protocol.

The role requires ARRT registration, an accredited radiography program, BLS, and preferred two years’ experience. Day shift, full-time with opportunities for growth within the system.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist/Radiography program.
  • ARRT registration as Radiographer.
  • Basic Life Support certification from AHA.
  • Knowledge of CT techniques and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • ALARA principles to reduce patient dose.
  • Two years of radiology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review radiologic requests and schedule procedures with patients.
  • Document procedures and ensure proper billing coding.
  • Set techniques and adjust equipment for optimal images.
  • Assist radiologists and perform fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Reimage as needed and prepare images for interpretation.
  • Maintain sterile technique and patient safety throughout.

Position Purpose

The Special Procedures Radiographer / Interventional Radiology Technologist performs a variety of specialized invasive and non-invasive diagnostic radiologic procedures in collaboration with the physician/APP and the IR Team. They are responsible to review the Physician Order and reason for exam, assist with/Set up the IR Procedure and work closely with the Radiology leadership and the IR Physicians/APP to produce the most diagnostic images possible in accordance with the department protocols.

Shift available: Day shift

Status available: Full Time, 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist/Radiography program
  • Registered as a Radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must have analytical skills necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of computerized tomography techniques and methods, and of cross-sectional anatomy in order to obtain quality images
  • Must know methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined films and to set up and operate equipment, with an emphasis on reduction in patient radiation dose (ALARA – As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
  • Must have ability to recognize pathology and tailor examination to provide a complete diagnosis
  • Two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred
What the Special Procedure Radiographer will do
  • Review requests for radiologic procedures and schedule patients for specialized diagnostic procedures, arranging for patient transport to the procedure area and assisting patient in the completion of various radiology forms.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation by providing procedural and billing coding to all records
  • Determine the proper radiographic technique parameters. Adjusts, manipulates and controls a variety of on-site equipment to provide optimal accurate images
  • Provide and process specialized radiographic images using duplication and subtraction techniques. Consult with radiologists, physicians and the Lead to determine the need for additional images for comprehensive radiographic interpretation
  • Perform necessary reimaging, collect and forward all completed images to the appropriate location(s) for interpretation.
  • Scrub and assist the radiologist or surgeons in the performance of special procedures such as fluoroscopic examinations, and in minor surgical procedures required.
  • Prepare contrast media and other devices utilized in invasive diagnostic radiological procedures and assists radiologist in their use
  • Practice sterile, isolation, and infection control techniques to prevent contamination of the patient and staff. Clean and sterilize consumable and continued-use supplies utilized in procedures
  • Transfer patients to procedure tables, assist patients with positioning and apply immobilization devices as necessary. Explain procedures to patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation
  • Administer contrast media and monitor patient for adverse reactions.
  • Operate radiology equipment (fluoroscopic, radiographic, and CT) computerized controls and, various peripheral equipment, enter commands necessary to visualize and manipulate screen images.
  • Manipulate tomographic images by changing mean and window through computerized controls, and changes degree of angulation to obtain best possible image.
  • Other duties as assigned.
