Qualifications

  • Analytical skills necessary to acquire knowledge of computerized tomography techniques.
  • Two years of experience as a Radi Technologist preferred.

Position Purpose

The Special Procedures Radiographer / Interventional Radiology Technologist performs a variety of specialized invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic radiologic procedures in collaboration with the physician/APP and the IR Team. They are responsible for reviewing the Physician Order and reason for exam, assisting with and setting up IR procedures, and working closely with the Radiology leadership and the IR Physicians/APP to produce the most diagnostic images possible in accordance with departmental protocols.

Shift available: Rotating

Status available: Full Time, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist/Radiography program
  • Registered as a Radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Analytical skills necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of computerized tomography techniques and methods, and of cross‑sectional anatomy to obtain quality images
  • Proficiency in exposure methods to obtain clearly defined images and to set up and operate equipment with an emphasis on radiation dose reduction (ALARA)
  • Ability to recognize pathology and tailor exams to provide a complete diagnosis
  • Two years of experience as a Radi Technologist preferred>
What the Special Procedure Radiographer will do
  • Review requests for radiologic procedures and schedule patients for specialized diagnostic procedures, arranging patient transport and assisting patients in completing radiology forms.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation by providing procedural and billing coding to all records.
  • Determine the proper radiographic technique parameters and adjust equipment to provide optimal accurate images.
  • Provide and process specialized radiographic images using duplication and subtraction techniques; consult with radiologists, physicians and the Lead to determine the need for additional images.
  • Perform necessary re‑imaging, collecting and forwarding all completed images to the appropriate location(s) for interpretation.
  • Scrub and assist the radiologist or surgeons in performing special procedures such as fluoroscopic examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Prepare contrast media and other devices used in invasive diagnostic radiological procedures, assisting the radiologist in their use.
  • Practice sterile, isolation, and infection control techniques to prevent contamination of the patient and staff; clean and sterilize consumable and continued‑use supplies.
  • Transfer patients to procedure tables, assist with positioning, apply immobilization devices, and explain procedures to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
  • Administer contrast media and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Operate radiology equipment (fluoroscopic, radiographic, and CT) computerized controls and various peripheral equipment, entering necessary commands for visualization and manipulation of screen images.
  • Manipulate tomographic images by adjusting window and mean through computerized controls, altering angulation to obtain the best possible image.
  • Other duties as assigned.
