Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools in Virginia Beach is seeking a Transportation Aide to support the Office of Transportation and Fleet Management Services. You will help transport pupils with special needs to and from school, assist bus drivers, and ensure students are seated and secured during trips.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; training and experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications.
• General knowledge of transporting students, including those with special needs.
• Ability to communicate with school officials, parents, and students with patience.

Responsibilities

• Assist students on and off buses.
• Ensure all passengers are secured in seats or wheelchair slots.
• Assist in controlling student behavior.
• Attend to special needs and conditions of each student.
• Learn bus routes, schedules, and pickup points.
• Assist substitute drivers with directions.
• Keep abreast of route and bus stop changes.
• Assist drivers in maintaining a clean bus interior.
• Perform related work as required.
