Sioux City Community School District Transportation in Sioux City, Iowa is seeking a Bus Assistant Route 69 to support special needs students during transportation. You will help with loading, safety, and daily routines to ensure a safe, reliable trip.

Qualifications

• Minimum education includes a high school diploma/GED and previous experience working with children.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate clearly over a radio communications system, before groups of students and staff, and before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Establishes a supportive and sympathetic relationship with students being transported.
• Assist with monitoring approximately 10 to 25 students per bus route.
• Teaches and assists students with loading and unloading the bus and with proper safe conduct while riding.
• Assists students with seating, buckling seat belts, and use of safety equipment.
• Assists students with outerwear and other life skills.
• Assists with hygiene tasks such as wiping noses and other health care needs as required.
• Operates, cares for, and cleans areas and equipment used in transportation of students; keeps bus clean.
• Relays information between parents, teachers, and staff; follows Instructions from teachers and parents.
• Assists professional staff in analyzing skill development and student plans; follows district safety policies; supervises during drills.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains confidentiality of student information.
