Job summary

Sioux City Community School District Transportation is seeking a Bus Assistant for Route 42 in Sioux City, IA. You will support students with safe, reliable transportation and assist with loading, seating, and daily routines.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and experience with children. You will communicate with staff and parents, maintain confidentiality, and participate in ongoing in-service training. This is a part-time, on-site role with regular attendance expectations.

Qualifications

• Minimum education includes a high school diploma/GED and previous experience working with children.
• Must be able to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to speak clearly and effectively over a radio communications system, before groups of students and sponsors, and before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and exercise initiative.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring approximately 10 to 25 students per bus route.
• Teaches and assists students with loading and unloading the bus properly and the proper safe conduct while riding.
• Teaches and assists students with such physical needs as seating, buckling seat belts, and use of other specific safety equipment.
• Teaches and assists students with such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear and other functional life skills.
• Teaches and assists students with hygiene tasks such as wiping noses, excess salivation, and other health care needs as required.
• Operates, cares for, and cleans areas and equipment used in the transportation of students.
• Relays messages between parents, teachers, and staff; follows instructions of teachers and parents.
• Follows District policies and safety regulations; observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Regular and dependable attendance is essential.
