Job summary

York County is seeking a camp staff member to help implement a recreation camp program for school-age children with special needs. You will adapt activities, supervise campers, and provide guidance in personal care and behavior while working closely with the Camp Supervisor.

The role requires 18+ with 1–2 years in Special Education or Therapeutic Recreation; a Virginia driver’s license is needed, and attendance must be reliable for the 4-week program.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 1–2 years of experience in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation or related field with children, especially those with special needs.
• Must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Must be available for a 4-week program and maintain consistent attendance.
• Must possess a Virginia driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing a recreation camp program for school-age children with special needs.
• Make recommendations for adaptations to meet the needs of children with special needs.
• Provide guidance in personal care and behavioral areas.
• Assist with planning, promoting, organizing and implementing daily activities and field trips.
• Organize and lead group activities and adapt programs for all campers.
• Supervise campers during all activities.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement to campers.
• Report accidents/incidents to Camp Supervisor.
