The Town of Matthews is seeking Police Officer candidates who meet the DOJ minimum standards and will undergo an intensive background evaluation. You must pass an interview and background process to move forward.

Ideal applicants are U.S. citizens, at least 21, with a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and must provide military service documentation if applicable. Background checks and medical/psychological screenings are part of the conditional offer process.

Qualifications

• Citizenship in the United States is required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Veterans must provide DD-214 evidence of service.
• Interview by department head or designees will assess demeanor and communication.
• Background evaluation is conducted with strict standards.

Responsibilities

• Patrol streets by car, bike, or on foot; check premises and report hazards.
• Respond to calls, determine nature of incidents, and apply appropriate action.
• Investigate traffic accidents and issue citations; direct traffic when needed.
• Investigate crimes, collect evidence, and present findings in court.
• Issue warrants, serve papers, and arrest suspects as required.
• Maintain radios, equipment, and records; advise public on laws.
