The Department of Development Services, Building Development Division, is seeking to fill a full-time position as a Special Inspections Engineer to work on both residential and commercial construction projects that have a significant structural engineering component. We are looking for a high performing, trustworthy employee who possesses the ability to provide technical information to people with varying technical backgrounds.
This job is a mix of office and field work. The office portion of the job requires reviewing construction drawings and engineering reports, and communicating with both internal and external customers to ensure public safety in the facilities under construction. The field portion of the work includes visits to active construction sites to conduct quality assurance inspections. These inspections ensure that work is progressing in accordance with the approved plans, building code requirements, and County policies and procedures. Communication with the contractors, engineers, and 3rd party inspectors is critical to ensuring construction code compliance and safety.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of related experience as a design professional, construction inspector, plan reviewer, inspector, and/or code enforcement inspector.
This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week.
This position can telework 1-2 days per week after an initial probationary period of 6-months.
Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a Commercial Building Inspector within 18 months of employment, in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Must become certified as a Residential Building Inspector within 36 months of employment in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must pass a DMV records check.
Hiring Range: $74,217 - $84,460
Full time positions with Prince William County Government qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
