Job Announcement

This position provides advanced technical support to the Project Management and Contracts sections. Serving as the Inspection Coordinator, performs specialized work related to building inspections, maintenance, and repair services for county facilities.

This position provides advanced technical support to the Project Management and Contracts sections. Serving as the Inspection Coordinator, performs specialized work related to building inspections, maintenance, and repair services for county facilities. This role independently manages the Regulatory Agency inspection process, requiring a working knowledge of building codes and the ability to interpret and communicate complex regulatory requirements. Proactively develops and maintains a monthly schedule of all inspections and tests, ensures timely resolution of deficiencies, and coordinates follow-up actions with regulatory agencies, contractors, internal staff, and external stakeholders.

Maintains accurate records for all inspections and tests within the county’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and other record-keeping systems. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving contractor proposals, cost estimates, and invoices for inspection-related work, and completing the necessary payment approval documentation. Oversees corrective actions for failed inspections, assigns repair tasks to APMs, tracks completion, and schedules re-inspections as needed. All inspection-related work orders are managed through final resolution.

This position works under the direction of the facilities supervisor and in collaboration with a team of assistant project managers (APMs).

This position requires issuance of a procurement card and adherence to all related policies and procedures.

Note: This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report during emergencies or inclement weather.

  • Thorough knowledge in the practical application of engineering science and technology to include applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design, maintenance, or production of approved plans, permits or construction and maintenance of structures, facilities or equipment;Thorough knowledge in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus and/or statistic and their applications for project completion and/or problem solving;
  • Thorough knowledge of county, state and federal laws, codes and regulations pertaining to the appropriate technical field;
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods and equipment used in engineering construction and inspection methods;
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices;
  • Ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices;
  • Ability to perform duties requiring manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude;
  • Ability to prepare accurate drawings and maps;
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems;
  • Ability to process information by compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating or verifying information and data accurately to document field notes;
  • Ability to use relevant information and judgment to evaluate whether plans, specifications, permits or inspection results are in compliance with standards or meet specification requirements;
  • Ability to estimate technical and/ or resource requirements for development of projects;
  • Ability to review and interpret technical documents such as maps, plans or schematics to plan work;
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and correct abnormalities and malfunctions in equipment and technical processes;
  • Ability to design, analyze and effectively use systems, components and methods within the framework of quality control and continuous improvement;
  • Ability to enter and maintain information utilizing software or adaptive devices;

  • Ability to select, utilize and maintain tools and technology, including adaptive tools and new technology to facilitate work or a process;

Employment Standards

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, four years of engineering technical support work.

Certificates And Licenses Required

Valid driver’s license

Necessary Special Requirements

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of building codes in respect to state mandated testing of life safety, vertical transportation, and other code regulated building sub-systems within county buildings.
  • At least two (2) years' experience in one of the following industries: Facilities Management, Construction, or other building trade industries.
  • At least two (2) years' experience documenting and recording technical information in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • At least two (2) years' experience of customer service experience.
  • At least one (1) year experience scheduling and coordinating complex activities in one of the following fields: facility management, construction, or other building trade industries.
  • Intermediate experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software; specifically, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience handling and communicating sensitive and confidential information.

Physical Requirements

Employee will be required to walk, climb ladders, stand, bend and carry items under 10 pounds of weight. Must be able to drive a county vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
