Job summary

Billings Clinic is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients between departments and exam rooms, using wheelchairs and gurneys as needed. Under supervision, you may handle equipment like oxygen canisters and drains during transport and ensure proper equipment readiness.

  • Communicate with families and staff regarding patient status and information.
  • Adhere to safety, quality improvement, and organizational policies.

Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE: $17.00 - 21.25

Under general supervision, Patient Transporter is responsible for providing patient transport services between departments and the exam rooms and lobby in the department. Transport services include use of a variety of equipment to include but not limited to wheelchairs, and as well as, Oxygen canisters, drains, walkers, crutches, canes, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) etc. during the transport process. The Patient Transporter may provide patient instruction on preparations and/or restrictions for x-ray in accordance with established policies and procedures within scope of practice.

Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviorsin communication with patient/resident, families, visitors, physicians, staffand others.
  • Utilizes good judgment in providing transport and otherassistance as deemed appropriate while ensuring all patient/guest needs aremet.
  • Communicates with families and guests who are waitingfor information on patients in Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
  • Transports patient within the department or betweenbuildings utilizing, gurneys, wheelchairs, assistive devises and DME. Duringtransport process, also manages additional patient care equipment such asOxygen canisters, pumps, VACs, drains, etc.
  • Accounts for inventory of the department wheelchairs,Assistive Devices gait belts and DME.
  • Ensures adequate equipment is available in thedepartment. Oversees routine cleaning of all patient transport equipmentbetween transfers.
  • Utilizes computerized information systems to look upinformation pertinent to the performance of the department patient procedures.
  • Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issuesand initiates appropriate action.
  • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assessand improve quality.
  • Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth anddevelopment; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

High school graduate or equivalent, preferred

Certifications and Licensure

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
