The Department of Statistics & Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University invites applicants to apply for a special faculty-post doctoral researcher position at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania campus.

The Department of Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University ( www.stat.cmu.edu) is world renowned for its contributions to statistical theory and practice. The postdoctoral researcher will pursue research with a faculty member on game‑theoretic statistics, confidence sequences and sequential forecasting, as well as multi‑armed bandits. This will be a 6‑month fixed term position. Anticipated start date January 2026.

Qualifications

Candidates will be expected to have a strong background in strong mathematical background instatistics and probability is a necessity, preferably with a knowledge of information/coding theory and theoretical machine learning. The candidate will write research papers, and may mentor younger students in the group, due to which writing quality, collaborative skills and oral communication will also be evaluated.
