The Town of Matthews is seeking a dedicated individual to perform responsible work for the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department. This position involves assisting staff at events, ensuring the safety and maintenance of parks, and working with the public.
Scheduled for one to three events a month, averaging 6-10 hours, you'll be involved in setup, oversight, and tear down at events. The role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with crowds.
Performs responsible work for the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department working with the general public, assisting the recreation staff at events, programs, and concerts, assisting with the maintenance and safety of parks and/or community center, and other related activities as required. Work is performed under the daily supervision of and reports to the Special Events Supervisor or Special Events Assistant, and is evaluated through observation and inspection to determine the thoroughness in carrying out assigned duties.
Position usually works one event per month, but could be up to three. Hours may vary depending on event (days and evenings).
Position average 6-10 hours per month, with a possibility of more during Matthews Alive Festival and the month of December.
Pay: $15 per hour

Does not include pre-event planning but does include the following at events:
Must be conscious of safety methods to avoid injury to others and themselves; May be subject to hazards including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, in large crowds of people, and exposure to various hazards such as noise, proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, dust, mists, fumes, oils, tight quarters, and narrow passageways. This position is subject to all State and Federal OSHA regulations, including, but not limited to the following: bloodborne pathogens, hazard communication/GHS, personal protective equipment, slips, trips, and falls, etc.
Prefer any combination of education equivalent to some coursework from high school and some experience in recreational programming, event planning, project management, or related field.
